RETURN TO THE OFFICE: THE PROCESS

REASSESS, REFINE, REIMAGINE

If now’s the time to think about returning to the office, then what exactly should the IT department focus on? What are the priorities? And how does it enable a seamless transition?

Given that every business is unique, we don’t think there should be a set of rules to adhere to, rather a methodology to follow. Therefore, we recommend making use of our three-step strategy, ‘Reassess, Refine and Reimagine’ when considering your current position, what you should do next, and what can be done differently.

REASSESS

What changes did you make to accommodate the shift in working practices at the outset of the pandemic, and what positive changes must stay because of the value they add?

Ask yourself:

  • Is the short-term device and remote access strategy adopted in the last year suitable for the long term?
  • Is the on-going reliance of existing collaboration tooling going to prove suitable in the long term?
  • Is the increased reliance on SaaS and public cloud being optimally consumed to minimise security risk and control cost?

REFINE

When considering how your people have been working most effectively remotely, what needs to be done differently to accommodate the same productivity within the office environment?

Ask yourself:

  • How can you balance security and compliance imperatives with the increased agility that users expect?
  • Can you support the bandwidth-hungry applications that have become vital to the way we work, such as video collaboration tools?
  • How can you meet greater expectations of reliable performance and robust infrastructure that ‘just works’?

REIMAGINE

What can be done in a new way to capitalise on positive digital change, continue the transformative journey, or prevent your organisation from falling back into bad habits?

Ask yourself:

  • Will you continue to explore the benefits of cloud-based security with Secure Access Service Edge (SASE)?
  • Can you facilitate the flip from MPLS and traditional WAN to mainly internet-based routing?
  • Do you have a defined SD-WAN solution in place, or a strategy to deploy one?

THE THREE KEY TECHNOLOGY THEMES

Within the flow outlined above, there are a number of technologies and solutions that will either require analysis and subsequent adaptation, or provide answers to the emerging challenges presented by a return to the office. These can be largely aggregated under three main themes:

We’ll explore each of these themes across the following pages.

01

NETWORKING AND CONNECTIVITY

– meeting evolving employee expectations within the office

02

PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY

– establishing, supporting and optimising a hybrid infrastructure

03

WORKSPACE AND COLLABORATION

– enabling a productive environment with limited disruption

+

SECURITY: ALWAYS CRUCIAL

– a pervasive topic that touches all of the above themes in this guide
